Natural Sugar Free Sweetener Approved

Good news for diet soda lovers who also love options. A new all natural, sugar free sweetener has been Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The component is called rebaudioside A and is derived from the stevia plant.Cargill and Coke have worked together to develop Truvia brand sweetener derived from rebaudioside A, which may be used as a tabletop sugar free sweetener. Other companies, such as PepsiCo and Sweet'N Low have developed all natural products sweetened with rebaudioside A as well.

Beverage Tax?

This morning I was reading the paper and came across a rather alarming article about a proposed "obesity tax." It seems New York Governor David Paterson has proposed a 15 percent beverage tax on sodas that aren't diet as well as beverages containing less than 70 percent juice. This just seems to ridiculous to me. We all know that overweight and obesity involve a myriad of contributors, not just one single food or ingredient. Why single out beverages? Does anyone reading this live in New York? I wonder what full calorie soda drinkers think of this.....

Thank god they aren't trying to tax diet sodas as well! Although it would not affect how much I consumed, it would definitely affect how much I would have to spend on diet sodas!

Crazy for Diet Soda

So, I thought I was a die hard diet soda lover, but this woman has me beat. I just read an article about a lady who drinks a case of diet soda a day. That's like 12 diet sodas!!! Wow. Although I do love to have a few diet soft drinks throughout the day, I think just like anything else a little moderation wouldn't hurt. Oh well, to each their own I guess.....

Early New Years Resolutions

So, I thought I was a die hard diet soda lover but I just read an article about a woman who drinks 12 diet sodas a day! That's crazy! I really didn't think anyone loved diet soda that much. I even have to admit that seems like a little much. Even though its calorie free and doesn't contribute to weight gain, I still think a little moderation is key just as with any other food or beverage. To each there own I guess......
