It seems the old adage; “You are what you eat” is a little off. According to research recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine, it is not what you eat, but how much. Results found that from a weight loss perspective it didn't matter what foods the participants ate, but how many calories they consumed. The findings are similar to a 2008 study by Kaiser Permanente’s Center for Health Research which found that keeping a food diary can double a person’s weight loss. More information regarding the study may be found here: http://www.caloriecontrol.com/pr_20090302.html.
This is good news for those of us who look to find weight loss through traditional means, such as calorie counting and portion control using sugar free ingredients and products. It also goes along with really accurate advice my friend gave me when she said, "Don't start a diet you can't stay on for a lifetime." Luckily, diet soda is calorie free which means drinkers of the delightful beverage won't have to modify that aspect of their diet if counting or trying to reduce calories! Check out the calorie counter at http://www.caloriecontrol.org/ to figure out how many calories you are eating! It is really surprising....
