Mars and Wrigley

No idea how this totally slipped by me, but a friend in Chicago alerted me to the really big news in the candy industry concerning the merger of Mars, Inc. and The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. Not much for me to say on the matter, except that I love Juicy Fruit and M&M's (yum! almond!).

Here's a cool little picture slide show from the Chicago Tribune: Mars/Wrigley Merger

Some videos for you:

I love the song in this M&M's ad (it's This is the Day by The The, if you're interested)

and thinking of Juicy Fruit reminds me of this awesomely funky song by Mtume!

Great Game!

The game itself was great (and proved Carl right!), but I found a lot of the commercials to be pretty underwhelming (or downright offensive, SalesGenie, I'm looking at you). Some of the good ones were from the soda makers though. Check 'em out down below:

Diet Pepsi Max

Coca-Cola

Did you see any you thought were really good?

Do You Watch For The Commercials?

Instead of focusing on the game while watching the Super Bowl, do you instead find yourself waiting for the commercial breaks? I know that I will be anticipating what Madison Avenue can pull out of their hats this year. To tide you over here are a couple of cool soft drink related ones from last year:

Coca-Cola

Sierra Mist

For Coke Zero fans

I saw this "bottle" over at the BevNet forums. Looks pretty cool, I know I would have to get at least one.

I've seen beer in aluminum bottles before, but I think this is a first for me in terms of soda. What do you guys think?

And, as a bonus, here's a cool ad for Coke Zero from Germany:

G2 (I thought it was a TV station too!)

In the back of my head I remembered reading a few months ago that a new lower calorie version of Gatorade would be available soon, but until seeing some ads on TV recently, had completely forgotten about it.

Here is what Money magazine had to say about it back in September:

"G2, a low-calorie electrolyte beverage with 25 calories per eight-ounce serving, is designed to keep athletes hydrated when they're not training or competing, the company said."

One of the complaints I've seen about sports drinks before is the sometimes high calorie content that comes along with all that stuff you need to replenish yourself after a long workout, running a 5K, playing a game of flag football, or working construction in high heat. It appears that G2 provides that without all those extra calories. Sounds good to me!

Gatorade has a web site introducing the new drink here: Introducing G2

Check out one of the TV teasers below featuring Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter:

More on Gatorade

Just to follow-up on yesterday's post, I was going through Gatorade commercials looking for the one with Robert Cade and encountered so many new and old that are very cool. Here are a few, what is your favorite?

Michael vs. Mia

Good and Evil Dwayne Wade

Big Heads

and of course, the original, Be Like Mike

I really miss those old glass bottles. And what a catchy song! I'll be singing that all day.
